Carl Arnold, Jr., age 82, known to everyone as "The Coke Man" passed away Thursday, August 7, 2014 at his home following a brief illness.
Carl was a lifelong resident of Church Hill "McPheeters Bend Community", and was a member of the McPheeters Bend Baptist Church for 57 years and was a lifetime honorary deacon. He was very active in his community having served as the caretaker of the McPheeters Bend Cemetery for several years, served in the McPheeters Bend Ruritan for 40 years, and was a founding board member of the Goshen Valley Fire Department. Carl was an avid UT fan having been to a UT football game every year since the 1950's. He retired from Coca Cola in 1994 after several years of service as a supervisor and following his retirement he worked for Johnson Funeral Home from 1994 to 2007.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl Arnold, Sr. and Hazel Collins Arnold, brothers, J.S. Arnold and Albert Arnold.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mary Hutson Arnold of the home, daughter and son-in-law, Sondra & Jon Summey of Church Hill, son and daughter-in-law, Ricky & Becky Arnold of Knoxville, his special grandson, Brody Summey of Church Hill, brother Eddie Arnold and wife, Debbie of Church Hill, special niece and nephew, Jimmy "Punkin" Arnold and Janet Derrick. Several other nephews surviving.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 PM Saturday at the Johnson - Arrowood Funeral Home, and anytime at the residence.
Funeral service will be conducted 7 PM Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Mark Roberts officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted 2 PM Sunday at the McPheeters Bend Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:15 PM Sunday to go in procession.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jimmy "Punkin" Arnold, Alvis Arnold, Andy Derrick, Aaron Derrick, Jason Derrick and F.D. Derrick.
Honorary pallbearers will be the adult men Sunday school class of McPheeters Bend Baptist Church and the members of the McPheeters Bend Ruritan.
