Walter Jahn, 54, Dies at Hospital, Funeral Is Sunday

Walter Jahn, 54, died at St. John's hospital Wednesday noon at five minutes after twelve. He had been a patient at the hospital since last May. While working in Seattle, Washington, on Feb. 13, he became ill and suffered a stroke. He was in the Seattle hospital for a time, after which he came to Minnesota to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jake Glanzer, in Sanborn. He later went to the home of his son, Marvin Jahn, in Marshall, where he was taken care of for a time before entering the local hospital for medical attention.

Had the deceased lived until Friday, Dec 10th, 1943, he would have been 54 years old. He was born in What Cheer, Iowa, the son of Henry Jahn and the late Emma Jahn of this city. When he was ten years old the family moved to Ocheyedan, Iowa, to make their home.

He was married to Elfrieda Mueller in Morris, Iowa, and they came to this community to make their home, residing on a farm in Brookville until the death of his wife. He then came to Springfield and made his home with his parents. He was employed by Reuben Potter and at the Cullen Garage until leaving for Seattle, Washington, where he was employed in the shipyards.

The deceased leaves three children, namely, Marvin Jahn, of Marshall, Mrs. Jake Glanzer (Norma) of Sanborn, and Gilbert Jahn of Seattle. He also leaves his father, Henry Jahn, 81, of Springfield, and the following brothers and sisters: Alvin Jahn of Bovey, Minn.; Mrs. Wm. Osterman (Ella) of Ocheyedan, Ia.; Fred Jahn of Springfield and Mrs. Roy Wichman (Velma) also of this community.

Funeral services will be held at the Zion Lutheran church in this city on Sunday afternoon with Rev. Herbert Kothe officiant. Burial will be made in the church cemetery.
