Evelene Stephens, 94, of Pleasant Plains died Friday at White River Medical Center.

Born in Pleasant Plains on November 3, 1919, she was the daughter of Noah Martin and Mabie (Gilbert) Martin.

She worked for Arkansas Poultry until her retirement and was a member of the Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She loved going to church and was a great Christian lady. Working in the yard and her flower garden was something she really loved to do and she always shared her flowers and plants with her family. She loved her grandchildren and quilted for all of them and she made great fried pies.

Survivors include one son, Linis Stephens (Jennifer) and one daughter, Veheda Griffin (Phillip) both of Pleasant Plains; seven grandchildren, Cindy Ciamaricone (Frankie), Leslie Galligher (Robert), Phyllis Scroggins (Bill), Dave Stephens (Stacy), Chrystal Durham (Curtis), Judy Girtman (Kevin), and Brittany Stephens; nine great-grandchildren, Austin Scroggins, Cameron Scroggins, Connor Girtman, Samantha Dickey, Emily Stephens, Colton Stephens, Noah Stephens, Seanna Durham, and Braxton Durham; and one great-great grandchild, Darren Stephens.

She is also survived by one daughter-in-law, Doris Stephens of Pleasant Plains.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Coy Stephens; and one son, Edward Stephens.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Girtman, Bill Scroggins, Curtis Durham, Dave Stephens, and Austin Scroggins. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Homer Brooks and Lee Wilson.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Pleasant Plains with Bro. Daryl Sellers and Reggie Walling officiating.

Burial will follow at the Union Grove Cemetery at Pleasant Plains under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.

Visitation was from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
