Mary Jane "Tiny" Perine, 74, of Wamego, died Monday, Feb. 23, at Stormont-Vail Health Care in Topeka following a short illness. She was born Jan. 9, 1930, in Wamego, the daughter of Claude and Mary Elizabeth Moyer Bledsoe.

She was a lifetime resident of Wamego, attended Wamego Grade School, and graduated in the class of 1947 at Wamego High School.

She married Jack D. Perine on June 18, 1950, at the Wamego United Methodist Church. They had shared more than 47 years together before he preceded her in death on Oct. 21, 1997.

She worked for J.C. Penney in Manhattan for five years prior to working at the McCall Pattern Company in Manhattan as a bookkeeper for 10 years from the 1960s to the mid-1970s. From 1979 until 1986 she worked part-time at Meinhardt Farm Equipment and the Wamego Country Club for several years. Family members say Mrs. Perine loved them, always following her grandchildren's sports and interests. She taught her grandson to play golf, which she loved playing and played with a passion. She hardly ever missed playing golf and cards with her lady friends on Tuesdays. She also enjoyed taking care of the wild birds in her backyard and had several pet birds throughout the years.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Ray Bledsoe, and a sister, Irene Cease.

Survivors include one son, S. Douglas Perine and his wife Rita of Rossville; a daughter, Susan Jane Nash and her husband Roger of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Ada Harrell and Adrienne Roth, both of Donna, Texas; one sister-in-law, Norma Falwell of Overland Park; three grandsons, Jason Perine and his wife Shanna of Topeka; Nate Nash of San Diego, Calif.; Nick Nash of Phoenix, Ariz.; and one granddaughter, Jen Perine of Auburn.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego with the Rev. Bill Eisele officiating. The family will greet friends during a visitation starting at 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of the funeral service. Burial will be in the Wamego City Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Wamego Country Club-Flower Bed Fund or to the Wamego Senior Citizens Center, and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, P.O. Box 48, Wamego, 66547.
