C. WALTER ARTZ, of the legal department of the AT&T Company of New York, and a prominent attorney, died Monday in that city, according to information received by relatives here. Mr. Artz was born and reared in Hagerstown, but spent most of his mature life elsewhere.

He was a member of a well known Hagerstown family and has distant relatives living here. He was an enthusiastic sportsman and for many years spent his vacations along the Potomac river, near Wiliamsport, and frequently visited in Hagerstown.

Mr. Artz died at the University Club, Fifth Avenue. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church Chapel, 5th Avenue and 55th Street. Burial was made here with services at the Suter Funeral Home and interment in Rose Hill.

Two nieces, former residents of Hagerstown and now of Baltimore, and Miss Maggie Artz, East North Street, a cousin, are among the survivors.
