Orland was the youngest of four children born Oscar and Ida Sexe. He attended school at District No. 34 country school and Hills High School. After high school, he attended Nettleton College. He was a member of the National Guard in Luverne, Minnesota, and was called to active duty with the US Army.
Orland married Ila Jean Else on 11 November 1950 in Valley Springs. In 1956, he began employment at Benedict & Oosterhuise Food Brokerage. He later became part owner of the company; he retired in 1979. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, the American Legion, and the Elks Club.
Survivors include his wife, one son, two daughters, one brother, two sisters, as well as other relatives and friends.
Visitation was at George Boom Funeral home and funeral services were at Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
