Rev. Karl G. Bernsdorff, 65, of Lancaster passed away Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Springs Memorial Hospital. He was born August 10, 1948 in Lienz Austria, the son of the late George and Ingeborg Bernsdorff. Rev. Bernsdorff graduated from Charleston Southern University. He also attended Princeton Theological Seminary and graduated with a Master of Divinity form Columbia Lutheran Seminary. Rev. Bernsdorff loved people and music. He played the violin in the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and enjoyed performing. He was also very civic minded and served on various boards. Rev. Bernsdorff served as the pastor of Faith Lutheran Church of West Columbia and was also a past Pastor of the Reformation Lutheran Church of Lancaster. He started the first "Crop Walk" in Columbia, S.C. and was on the original planning committee for the following organizations; Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies; Hope of Lancaster; and Hospice of Lancaster. In addition he served as board member of the Lancaster Children's Home as well as Springs Memorial Hospital. Rev. Bernsdorff was also a past president of the Lancaster Rotary as well as a Paul Harris Fellow.

The funeral service for Rev. Bernsdorff will be held Saturday, August 16th, 2014 at 10 A.M. at Reformation Lutheran Church with the Bishop Herman Yoos, Rev. Guy Shealy, Rev. Gerald Bultman, and Rev. Stephen Cooper officiating. Burial will be in the Jerusalem United Methodist Church Cemetery in Elloree, SC. 7347 Old Number Six Hwy at 4 P.M.

Rev. Bernsdorff is survived by his wife, Mary L. Bernsdorff of Lancaster; two daughters Katrina Bernsdorff and her husband Samuel "Smokey" Farris of Lancaster and Gretchen Thompson and her husband Kyle of Shorewood, Minnesota; four sisters, Alexandria Hildebrand of Bricktown, New Jersey; Irene Zani and her husband Bruno of San Jose, California; Kyra Johnson and her husband E.J. also of San Jose, California; and Nina Seelos and her husband Scott of Arroyo Grande, California; and three grandchildren Tavyn and Kolton Thompson and Ella Farris.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, August 15th, 2014 at Lancaster Funeral Home.
