A former Collingsworth County farmer, Walter Earl Abney, 69, or 492 35th Street, Lubbock, died Tuesday, August 28, at 10:55 p.m. after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Westhaven Chapel, Lubbock, with the Rev. Truman Johnson, pastor of First Baptist Church, Sudan, officiating. Burial was in Resthaven Memorial Park by Resthaven Funeral Home.

He was married to Edna Dale November 9, 1935, at Vernon.

The family moved to Wolfforth in 1959 and to Lubbock in 1970.

Survivors are his wife; four sons, Walter Abney of Lubbock, Michael Abney and Dan Abney of Levelland, and Terry Abney of Oregon City, Oregon; three daughters; Mrs. Sidney Barnette of Greenville, Mrs. Bud Pruitt of Friona, and Mrs. Perry Williams of Lubbock; one brother, Carl Abney of Mean, Arkansas; one sister, Mrs. Laura Dean of Palestine; 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
