Charles R. "Dick" Fry of Grant Center passed away peacefully at Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids on August 6, 2014 at the age of 81. He was born at his family home in Mottville, Michigan on March 13, 1933 to Amos and Cora (Woolhouse) Frye.

Dick attended grade school in the Burr Oak area. He later moved to Pogy, the home of family friends Ralph and Mickey Kilpatrick, and graduated from Evart High in 1951. Dick joined the United States Marine Corp and proudly served his country from 1951-1955, during the Korean War.

After he was honorably discharged Dick moved back to the Kilpatrick family farm and began his employment for Wolverine World Wide, where he met Theresa DeVivo. Dick and Theresa were married at the United Church in Big Rapids on April 30, 1955. Together they started their married life in Three Rivers, Michigan. In 1957 they moved back to the Big Rapids area when they purchased Theresa's parents, Rocco and Lucy DeVivo's, family farm in Grant Center where they raised their family.

Farming and family were his first loves. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and pal, Scruffy, in his motor home to many points of interest, camping with friends and family, The Buckley Old Engine Show, Old Michigan Fiddler Association (OMFA) Jamborees, and going to dances anywhere nearby. Dick also liked the trips they took to the Carribean, Alaska, Branson, and Maggie Valley as well as going to the casinos to challenge the machines; and he was lucky. He served in many capacities of the Grant Township Board and the OMFA Board.

Dick is survived by his wife of 59 years, Theresa; sons, Richard "Randy", Brian (Michelle), Jon (Val) and Doug (friend Ilene); daughters, Sherri (John) Beam, Trisha (Peter) Marks; son-in-law, David Snyder; grandchildren, Charles "CJ" Johnson, Richard (Nancy) Fry, Liza Fry, Stacey Cox, Maggie Fry, Tim (Kelly) Snyder, Jenna (Travis) Horstman, Nicholas Fry, Shane Fry, Amanda Dailey, Tammy Fry, Tracy Fry, Tyler Fry, Ame Fry, Douglas Fry, Thea (Everett) Jones, Shana Sims, Trenton Sims, Mackenzie Marks and Ella Marks; great-grandchildren, Leah, Alena and Shawn Fry, Cora Sue and Brydan Snyder, Aurora Fry-Afrhami, Eryk Fry, Hunter Stevens, Trevor and Dominique Johnson, and two on the way; sisters-in-law, Bessie Heemstra and Marie Frye; and faithful companion Scruffy, his dog.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Cora Frye; brothers, Robert (Florena), Herbert, Bill, Bud (Helen) Amos "JR"; sister, Faye (Byron) Schneider; father and mother-in-law, Rocco and Lucy DeVivo; in-laws, Mary (Gale) DeVries, Gertrude Kilgore, Charles Heemstra, Mike (Dorothy) DeVivo; his daughter, Susan Snyder in November 2013; and many other relatives and numerous friends.

A father's love outlives them all; you will be truly missed by your wife and family.

Funeral services will take place 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 10, 2014 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Lyle Ball officiating. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, August 9, 2014 and again one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Interment will be at South Grant Cemetery in Grant Center.

Memorial contributions may be made in Dick's name to the Grant Center United Methodist Church.
