He was a retired construction field office manager and a farmer. He was baptized at the First Baptist Church in West Monroe and later became a member of College Place Baptist Church in Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Alexander Burt and Minnie McKenzie Haynes Burt; his brother, Daniel McKenzie Burt; and thirteen half brothers and sisters.
He was survived by his wife of 56 years, Dathene Williams Burt; three daughters, Annette Burt Lee Daniels, Margaret Minette Burt, and Janette Burt Emerel and husband Gerry; and 2 grandsons.
