Willard Joseph West was born in Logan, Utah on October 24, 1917 to Ray B. and Mary M. West, and died August 3, 2014 in Bountiful, Utah of causes incident to age.

He married Joyce Allred on November 19, 1937 in the Logan Utah Temple. They were married seventy-two years.

He graduated Logan High School and Utah State Agricultural College (now Utah State University) with a degree in Bacteriology.

He was an officer in the Regular Corps of the US Public Health Service during World War II, and served more than thirty years in the State Health Department.

During this time, he and his family lived in locations throughout the state, and travelled extensively helping agencies maintain high standards in water systems, sewage treatment, restaurants, hotels and motels, school lunch programs, and nursing homes and assisted living centers.

While living in Bountiful, he pursued an additional career in real estate. His interest in real estate spanned the rest of his life, and expanded to include several years in post-retirement in the banking industry.

After ten years away from public health service, he was encouraged to return once again to his health career full-time, eventually becoming the State Director of Hospital Planning and Construction. He also directed several local and regional health planning councils and health departments.

Willard offered service to his church and community throughout his life. He was a member of the Rotary Club and served for more than ten years as a justice of the peace.

A lifelong member of the LDS Church, he served as bishop, a high councilor, and in many other callings. With Joyce, he served as a ward missionary, and for more than twenty years, they served as Church Service Missionaries in the Member Location Program in the Church's Member and Records Department.

Willard's wife, Joyce, preceded him in death, as did his parents, four brothers, and a sister. He has three children, fifteen grandchildren, and forty-eight great-grandchildren, all of whom survive him. His children are Joseph (Eileen) West of Bountiful; Mary Ellen West of Las Vegas, Nevada; and Richard (Sharon) West of North Logan.

A funeral service will be held in his honor in the Canyon Park Ward Chapel, 1190 East Bountiful Hills Drive (approximately 900 South), Bountiful, on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. A viewing/visitation will be held on Friday, August 8, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the church prior to the services.
Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery, 1000 North 1200 East, Logan, with services there to begin at 2:45 p.m.
