Joseph P. Dunne, Sr., 72, of Long Beach, Calif., and formerly of Fall River and Portsmouth, died on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004. He was the husband of Mary (Duffy) Dunne.
Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late David J. Dunne, Sr. and the late Mary (Kearns) Dunne. He graduated from Durfee High School in 1950 and obtained a degree in business administration from Boston College in 1954.
Mr. Dunne spent 35 years as a certified public accountant in Middletown. Before moving to California in 1978, he served as Portsmouth town treasurer for 15 years and was also the chief financial officer at the Kirk Paper Company in Downey, Calif., before retiring in 1998.
Mr. Dunne was an avid Red Sox fan.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Christine Staskiewicz of Tiverton; six sons, Joseph P. Dunne, Jr. of Nashua N.H., Ted Dunne of Nashua, N.H., Patrick Dunne of Ellington, Conn., Michael Dunne of Long Beach, Calif., Peter Dunne of Laguna Niguel, Calif. and Stephen Dunne of Fullerton, Calif.; two brothers, David J. Dunne, Jr. of Somerset, Mass. and Paul Dunne of Michigan City, Ind.; a sister, Davida Dunne of Fall River; and 15 grandchildren. He was also the brother of the late Owen Dunne.
His funeral was held on Monday, Dec. 13, from the Harrington-Sullivan O'Rourke & Waring Home of Memorial at Maplewood in Fall River beginning at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at St. Christopher Church in Tiverton. Burial was in St. Patrick Cemetery in Fall River.
