George William Church
1942-2014

In the arms of his loving wife, surrounded by his family, George went home to be with our Lord August 4, 2014 at the age of 72 years at his home. George was born July 24, 1942 in Cannon City, Colorado to Neal and Cleathel Anderson Church.

George started school at Norwood, then attended Hulbert, Pryor, Wagoner and graduated from Fort Gibson High School in 1960.

At the age 11 and 13, George and Wayne entered into their first partnership, racing their paint horse in match races in Hulbert, winning their first race. They took turns riding, winning some and losing some, but never losing their love for horses.

At the request of Oscar Jeffers, Jr., when George was 14 and Wayne 16, the family moved to Wagoner to work on Jeffers’ Mr. Bar None Ranch. During this time they helped break and ride World Champion Running Quarter Horse Mr. Bar None, starting them on a lifetime Quarter Horse racing partnership, often referred to as the Church brother’s horses. Every 5 years they have received a certificate from the Quarter Horse Association for years of membership since 1976.

George started his working career in the oil fields with his brother Wayne. Both decided to follow in their father’s footsteps and became International Union Of Operating Engineers Local 627 members in 1966. George was a skilled crane operator retiring in 2004.

George married the love of his life Deloris Ann Wolfe Leisure Oct. 19, 1979 in Muskogee, OK.

George leaves behind to cherish his memory wife Dee of the home, daughter from previous marriage Cleathel Marie Faber and husband Chris, son George William Church II and Crystal Delap, all of Fort Gibson, OK. Step-daughter Melissa Dawn Davis and husband Gary Davis of Corpus Christi, Texas. Grandsons Elric McElhaney, Mylo McElhaney, and Ty Bolstad all of Fort Gibson, OK. Granddaughters Meagan Davis of Corpus Christi, Texas and Lauren Compton of Fort Gibson, OK. Brothers David Wayne Church and wife Rita of Fort Gibson, OK. Larry Walter Church and wife Angela of Seminole, OK. 2 great-grandsons, 1 great-granddaughter, numerous nephews, nieces, family members and friends. Mother-in-law Rosie Wolfe, brother-in-laws Bruce Wolfe and wife Theresa, Rodney Bonnell and wife Angie, Chester Sholes, Sister-in-laws Carolyn Cummings and husband Chuck, all from West Virginia, and Sheri Baird and husband Tom from Georgia.

He was preceded in death by his parents Neal and Cleathel Church, both sets of grandparents, one brother Neal Mitchel Church, infant sister Thedora Church, sister-in-law Rosalee Sholes, numerous uncles, and aunts.

George was loved by all and will be truly missed by family and friends. At his request no services will be held. His final resting place will be at a later date when the love of his life Dee joins him for eternity, at Eureka Cemetery in the family plot.
