He attended University of Georgia, where he helped launch the college radio station WUOG, and went on to work in radio at Atlanta's talk radio station, WRNG.
He was passionate about preservation, and was part of the efforts to protect the Swan House property from being subdivided and built up. He held leadership positions in a number of other organizations as well, including the Tuxedo Park Civic Association and the Atlanta Speech School board.
He died at his home, from complications from cancer. He is survived by a wife, a brother, a son, a daughter, and one grandson.
