West Point, Ill., Jan. 21. -- Marie Josephe Boquet was born February 15, 1847, at Sourd, France. At the age of 7 she came with her parents to America and settled near Basco, Ill.
She was united in marriage to Jules Henri Charpentier, August 30, 1867, at Basco, Ill., and they lived on the homestead farm until 1888 when they moved to West Point, Mr. Charpentier entering the general merchandise business.
After her husband's death, June 23, 1895, the business was transferred to the hands of Mrs. Charpentier and her son, Edmond L., who have since conducted the business under the original firm name of J. Charpentier & Son.
Mrs. Charpentier was one of West Point's noblest women, loved and respected by all of her acquaintances, young and old alike. Her pleasant manner and business inclination brought her in touch daily with the community at large, and West Point is saddened by her sudden departure, Thursday morning, diabetes being the contributory cause.
She was affiliated with and was an active member of Edgiva lodge of Rebekahs, and West Point chapter, No. 122, Order of Eastern Star.
She leaves to mourn her death three children, Henry I., of Bordeaux, France, representative of the International Harvester company; Edmond L., of West Point [Illinois], and Claire C. Barnard, of West Point [Illinois]; four grandchildren, and a host of friends.
The funeral will be held from the home in West Point Saturday at 11 a.m., with Rev. T. B. Uler of Carthage officiating, and interment will be at the Sylvan Dale cemetery.
