VerdaBelle Cox Jones, 85, of Richland, WA, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister and friend left this life March 11, 2005, in Richland.
Born Feb 26, 1920, in Blackfoot, Idaho, to Charles Monroe Cox and Laura Hilda Lindquist Cox, she was raised on her family's mini-farm in Blackfoot until age 15 when her family moved to Idaho Falls, ID, where she graduated from high school.
She attended college in Los Angeles, CA, graduating in commercial art. She married Richard Greenwood Jones on May 25, 1940, in LA. They were sealed for time and eternity June 20, 1940, in the LDS temple in Salt Lake City, UT, and moved to Richland in 1944 where she resided for the remainder of her life.
VerdaBelle's life was one of loving, caring and serving family, friends and all around her both in and out of her home. Her cookies, cinnamon rolls and meals were her trademark.
She unselfishly shared her many talents. She was an accomplished artist, calligrapher, and seamstress. She had a 'green thumb' and could make anything grow.
She served many causes in the community. She loved the Lord and was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, holding numerous callings throughout her life including visiting teaching for more than 60 years. She worked in the LDS family history center for six years and served with her husband as Spanish extraction missionaries for 11 years.
She is survived by her children, Cordia Watkins (Val) of Kennewick, WA, Rowen Jones (Sharon) of Norfolk, VA, Rance Jones of Lehi, UT, Delsa Pospical (Max) of Richland, WA, and Brad Jones (Wendy) of Farmington, UT; sisters, Leoma Cook (Ray) of Midvale, UT, and Joy Baker (Leland) of West Jordan, UT; sister-in-law, Adelle Mason of Santa Anna, CA; daughter-in-law, Linda Rae Jones of Sandy, UT; cousin, Willa Main (Jack) of Bountiful, UT. Also survived by 39 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren and lots of friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, in 1989; her parents; brothers, Dee Cox, Owen Cox and Reed Cox; granddaughter, Ruth Jorgensen; and great-granddaughter, Alyssa Larsen.
We, your family and friends, thank you for your love, example and legacy. We love you.
Viewing will be 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 18, at Einan's Funeral Home, Richland, WA.
Funeral will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 19, at the LDS Church, 1720 Thayer Drive, Richland. Interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
