BURIAL 1/19/1949

Mrs. Mary Beatrice Vann, 63-year-old Commerce resident, died at 2:30 a.m. today at her home, 205 South Maple street, following an illness of three months. A member of the Methodist church and the American Legion Auxiliary, she had lived in Commerce 11 years.
Survivors include her husband, D.W. Vann, of the home; three sons, Melbourne, Altamont, Kas.; Joe, Winfield, Kas., and Bill, Pittsburg, Kas.; three daughters, Mrs. Ermina Campbell, Commerce; Mrs. Carlotta Baugh, Fukryoka, Japan, and Miss Cherokee Vann of the home; a brother, D.R. Alberty, Hutchinson, Kas.; a half-brother, W.C. Cunningham, Joplin, and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be announced by the Goodson Funeral home, Miami.

MARY BEATRICE "BEA" VANN
Daughter of JOSHUA BUFFINGTON ALBERTY and SARAH A "Sally" McCOY, Cherokee Old Settlers. Bea's parents both died shortly after she was born. She was raised for some time in the Cherokee Orphan Asylum, then lived with two sets of guardians. She attended the Cherokee Female Seminary, Tahlequah. In 1805, she married DAVID WEBSTER SUNTA VANN, Pryor Creek, where they made their home until moving to Ottawa County in the 1920s, first to Quapaw, then to Commerce, where Sunt built their home at 205 South Maple, a house always filled to the rafters with family and friends. Bea loved her children and they loved her even more.
Their children were Ermina Clarinda Vann m Carl Campbell, Carlotta Archer Vann m Ira Baugh, Cherokee B Vann, Milbourne Alberty "Buck" Vann, Joe Vann, and Billy Gordon Vann.
Bea only lived to see her first three grandchildren: Cathy Ca-ti Vann b 1947 (daughter of son Billy,) Kyle David b 1947 (son of Buck), and baby Karen b 1948 (daughter of Joe).
Bea's brother David R Alberty survived her.
