SALEM - Howard was the son of John Dixie Branch and Anne M. Standley Branch of Alamo, Tenn.

In World War II he served in the 492 Fighter Squadron Army Air Force, 354th Pioneer Mustang Fighter Group, Red Ass Squadron P-51 Mustangs. in Salem, Ore., Europe, Normandy, Rhineland, and France. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant.

He was employed at several Salem auto dealerships as Body Shop Foreman. He retired from State Farm Insurance Co. as the first Auto Estimator in Salem and surrounding area. He was a life member of the Salem Gun Club, and avid bird hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by his wife, Harriett Branch; his former wife, Beverly Niesen McDonald and their children, Jan L. Burda (Joe) of Boise, Idaho, Kevin T. Branch (Michelle) of Silverton; three granddaughters, Kristen Burda Watts (Shaun), Rebecca Burda of Portland and Audrey Burda of Boise, Idaho. Howard was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

At his request, no services will be held. Interment will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens.
