Ethel Elizabeth Akert Margetts Gorringe, our loving mother, grandmother, great-grand-mother, and friend, age 86, returned to her Heavenly Home on April 26, 2000, after completing a successful mission on earth.

She patiently endured Alzheimer's Disease for the past seven years.

Born May 7, 1913 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the seventh of eight children of John H. and Anna S. Akert.

Attended Salt Lake City schools and graduated from East High. Married Paul E. Margetts September 24, 1941. Later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. He passed away October 11, 1979. Married O. W. (Toby) Gorringe October 7, 1981. He died December 17, 1997.

Ethel was a devoted wife and mother and a loyal employee of Castleton's for 17 years. She served faithfully in the various organizations of the LDS Church, but is most noted for her sincere compassion and generosity to her family, friends, and neighbors.

Survived by her children, Michael E. (Anne) Margetts, Patricia A. (Earl) Armstrong, John A. (Holly) Margetts, Gay (Doug) Rosevear, all of Salt Lake City; 22 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and special friends. Also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and three sisters, and son-in-law Bart Newsome.

She gave us a legacy of kindness, love and service that will be treasured forever.

We thank the staff of Christus St. Joseph's Villa for their tender and compassionate care of our precious Mom.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 1, at 12 noon, at the Monument Park 4th Ward, 2215 East Roosevelt Ave (1460 South). Friends may call Sunday 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary 2350 East 1300 South, and on Monday at the ward 11-11:45 a.m. prior to service. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 10600 South 1700 East. The family suggests contributions to Christus St. Joseph's Villa, or Utah Alzheimer's Association.
