In 1860 he and family were living in Drew Co Ark and he died 23 Jan 1862 Fredricksburg, Va CSA. After his death Frances moved the family back to SC.

Enlisted on 9/3/1861 at Pine Bluff, AR., he was mustered into Company B, 2nd Arkansas Battalion Infantry, as a Private.
Died of disease.
The 2nd Arkansas Infantry Battalion was formed during the late summer of 1861 and moved to Virginia. It served in General Pettigrew's and Pender's Brigade, totaled 146 men in April, 1862, and was active in the Seven Day's Battles. The unit later merged into the 3rd Arkansas Regiment.
