Mary Thompson Dies Saturday
Mrs. Mary Thompson, 66 Years Old, Dies at the Home of Her Daughter, Mrs. David Simmerman-Funeral Sunday
Mary Ann Edgerton was born near Riverton, Iowa, October 16, 1852, and died June 21, 1919, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. David Zimmerman of Newton at the age of 66 years, 9 months and 5 days.
She was united in marriage in Geo. W. Thompson, December 29, 1872(?). To this union nine children were born.
Homer A., of Altoona, Ia.; Arthur S. of Didsbury, Alberta, Canada; Mrs. Winnie Dollard of Colfax; Mrs. Hattie FCornstaff, Riverton, Ia.; Mrs. Ellie Simmerman, Mrs. Millie Schaumberg, Perry; Mrs. Susie Russell and George of Newton.
The latter two with her husband preceded Mrs. Thompson in death. The deceased is also survived by her brothers Samuel Edgerton of Riverton, ___ Will of Adams, Nebr. And Elmer Edgerton living at Pal ___, Ia. Also one sister, Mrs. Lou Herbold of Benchland, Montana.
Mrs. Thompson had been afflicted for many years, and the last few months of her life was marked by intense suffering. Through it all, however, she manifested the spirit of true Christian patience and did what she could to make others happy.
She united with the Christian Church of Newton about fifteen years ago but her delicate health prevented her attending services much of the time and engaging otherwise in the public part of the church.
She was a constant reader of the Bible and one of her greatest delights was in conversing about her master.
There has passed away a life, unpretentious, but full of service commensurate with its talents and circumstances. Such are the lives that brighten the pathway of the greatest of humanity.
Funeral services were conducted at Morgan's undertaking parlors Monday afternoon at 2:30, by Rev. H. H. Helier, pastor of the Christian church.
The music was furnished by Mrs. L. C. Smith and Miss Grace Tripp who sang, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Shall We Gather at the Vier." Miss Lula Cox played the piano in accompaniment.
The pall bearers were H. A. Thompson, David Simmerman, Bear(?) Schaumberg, P. J. Thompson, E. S. Dellard and Samuel Russell.
A brother, Elmer Edgerton of Palmyra, Iowa, arrived shortly after the funeral services.
Interment was made in the Newton cemetery.
