According to US Census records:

In 1900 John is living in Grayling, Crawford, Michigan with his wife Ginsene and sons, Robert W, Frederick and Ludvig. He is a hotel operator. He immigrated to the United States in 1883. This census gives the date of his birth as Sept 1861.

According to his death certificate, his birth and death dates ate not as they are inscribed on his marker. He was born September 17 1862 in Denmark and died November 13 1931 in Grayling. He and his wife, Jensine had moved from Grayling to Johannesburg, where he was residing up until his death at Mercy Hospital in Grayling.

His obituary was published in the Crawford County Avalanche November 19 1931. He was survived by three sons, Robert of Hurrah, Washington and Fred and Ludvig of Detroit.
