Mrs. Childress was born on November 7, 1927 in Paducah, Texas to Dowal Cisero and Mary Helen (Whitley) Parks. She married John Raymond "Ray" Childress on June 9, 1946 in Slaton, Texas and he preceded her in death on November 2, 1999. She was a longtime Abernathy resident, where she was a member of the First Assembly of God. She was also a member of the Hub of the Plains Ex-Prisoners of War Association. She loved to entertain her family and friends.
She left this life on Thursday, August 20, 2009, in Plainview.
She is survived by a son, Jonnie Dowal Childress and wife Shannon of Ripley, W.Va.; two daughters, Anna Rigler and husband Kirk of Plainview and Dawn Burton and husband J. D. of Bryan, Texas; two grandchildren, Nathan Rigler and wife Mandy of Lubbock and Amber Anderson and husband Ron of Ripley, W.Va. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Kylie, Trystyn and Brynlee Anderson and Noah Rigler; and one sister, Bessie Porter of Boise, Idaho.
