On his application for a United States passport in 1916 he states that he emigrated to the United States on board the Canadian Railroad from St. Johns, New Brunswick, on December 1, 1896 and has resided in New York City for 20 years. He became naturalized on February 7, 1903, in New York City. In 1916 he is the captain of the American S.S. Pioneer, sailing to Denmark from New Orleans.
