MONTPELIER NATIVE DIES IN CHEYENNE
Harry A. Gaskins, 50, Montpelier native, and a resident of Laramie, Wyoming since 1942, died suddenly on December 6 of a heart attack in Cheyenne. Mr. Gaskins was the district engineer of water service for the Union Pacific railroad with headquarters at Laramie.
He was born June 18, 1907 in Montpelier, the son of Charles E. and Lillian McCammon McIlwain Gaskins. He attended the local schools and was a star track performer for Montpelier high school. Mr. Gaskins continued his education at the University of Idaho, Moscow. He began his employment with the Union Pacific Railroad in 1937, and in December, 1942 the family moved to Laramie where he was district engineer.
He was a member of the Laramie Loyal Order of Moose and the Legion of the Moose. Mr. Gaskins belonged to the Methodist Church.
Mr. Gaskins and Norma McDonald were married in 1929. Besides his widow, he is survived by two daughters and one son, Mrs. Charles (Mary) Hamilton of Laramie, Charles E. Gaskins, 14, and Linda Gaskins, 12. Also surviving are two brothers and one sister, Clyde McIlwain of Bakersfield, California, William B. Gaskins of Pocatello, and Mrs. Jesse Orchard of Montpelier; and three grandchildren.
Services were held at 1 p.m., Tuesday in the Matthews Mortuary Chapel with the Reverend G. Eldred Kelley officiating. Bishop Alvin C. Tueller was a speaker. Vocal duets, “Abide With Me”, and “In The Garden”, were sung by Mrs. Reed Lowe and Max Haddock, with Mrs. Lester Armatage, accompanist.
Graveside ritual at Montpelier cemetery was held by L.O.O.M. No. 858 with Arthur Rowland and DeVerl Watkins conducting.
Pall bearers were Fred McKee, Owen Stephens, Wilmer Phelps, L. S. Wedel, Ferris Hess and Rednil Reiber.
