Baxter was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver A. Kirkconnell Sr. and Isabel Hunter Kirkconnell; brothers, Oliver A. Kirkconnell Jr, Walter Kirkconnell, Dee Dee Kirkconnell and Lewis Kirkconnell.
Baxter was a loving husband, devoted father and successful businessman. He was an avid hunter who enjoyed the outdoors. Always quick with a smile and a joke, he spent many happy years entertaining family and friends. He came to Brownsville in the early 1950's to join his father, Oliver Kirkconnell who was importing shrimp from Mexico. He later took a job working in the oil fields of Morgan City, Louisiana. In 1957, he met and married his wife, Pearl Feurtado, in New Orleans, Louisiana and returned to Brownsville to begin his career in shrimping. He successfully ran his own fleet of shrimp boats until his retirement in the mid-1990s.
Committal will follow services at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.
