HAVANA, IL - Richard Towery, 68, of Rural Route 2 died at 3:55 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 1994, at Mason District Hospital.

Born Oct. 4, 1925, in Cass County to John Franklin and Susan Virginia Garner Towery, he married Doris Jean Ruber. She preceded him in death. He later married Kathryn Bryant Layton on July 7, 1984. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Esther Oviyach of Sauk Village and Frances Naddy of Coral Springs, Fla.; one son, Gordon of New Lenox; three stepsons, Ernest Jr., Larry and Ronald Layton, one stepdaughter, Mrs. Allen (Kathy) Dye, and one brother, Paul, all of Havana; three sisters, Susan Richardson and Mary Servis, both of Havana, and Dora Pratt of Kilbourne ; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Eight brothers, three sisters and one great-granddaughter preceded him in death.

He was a World War II Army veteran. He was an installer at Otis Elevator Co. in Chicago. He was a member of the International Elevator Constructors Union Local 2. He was a member of Central Christian Church in Havana.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hurley Funeral Home. The Rev. Charles Hughes will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to his church, Chester Center in Havana or the American Cancer Society.
