Van Creech passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, January 16, 2010.

Van loved his family, beautiful women, (including his wife, Lolita), fine dining, classical music, cold beer, good food, his home and beautiful trees in Wagon Tongue and last but not least, ATVs. He was a WWII veteran and served in the United States Army Air Forces (as it was known then) as an air traffic controller. He was very proud of the architectural millwork business (known as Van Creech Millwork) that he owned for nearly fifty years and was a perfectionist, much to the chagrin of his employees. In fact, his roots in air traffic control drew him to help build control towers; he loved to work on them because of the complicated angles. He built a number of homes in the Wagon Tongue area, and completed his last one this Fall. His handiwork can be seen from the East coast to the West coast and everywhere in between. At the time of his death he was still sought out by contractors to bid on jobs. He was a mathematical genius and once figured the number of square feet in a section of land in his head. The math was verified and he was exactly right. Just so you know, one section is one square mile or 640 acres or 27,878,400 square feet. Van had friends in every restaurant up Ute Pass, from Colorado Springs to Lake George and beyond. He told every waitress he was 99 years old to get a free piece of pie. He almost caught up to his fib, and passed away just short of turning 89. He loved riding his ATV through the beautiful Colorado mountains and took a fun filled trip last summer with his friends. He was the nicest guy in the world, and the meanest - depending on the day. He was loved and hated, but mostly loved.

We would like to thank his many friends and neighbors, particularly Tom, Charlie, Dean, Chubby Buddy and Dan. He loved you so much.

Van is survived by his loving children: Chris (Faith) Creech of Singapore; David (Debra) Creech of Colorado Springs, CO; Claire (Eduardo) Chiles of Houston, TX; Norma (Burt) DeHaven of Verona, WI; nine grandchildren: John, Spencer, Jacob, Rachel, Matthew, Robyn, Eva, Timothy, Joanna; three great grandchildren; and his brother Louis Creech of Alexander, AR.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lolita (Parker) Creech; his parents, Robert J. and Mary Elizabeth Creech; and nine brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be on Saturday, January 23, 2010, from 10:00 am to Noon at: Mountain Memorial Funeral Home, 51 County Road 5, Divide, CO. Services to follow on Saturday, January 23, 2010, at 1:00 pm at: Community Fellowship of Christians, 39633 Hwy 24, Lake George, CO. Arrangements by Mountain Memorial Funeral Home.
