Jailey/Jaylee Green was born on 10 March 1862 in Cocke County and died at the age of 82 of "Cancer of the bladder" in Bybee, Tennessee on 22 March 1944. She was sick from 28 February to 14 March and was buried at Fowler's Ga (may be Grove) Cemetery in Bybee. Informant appears to be Mrs. George Gunter (Death Certificate #4848. Tip Brown undertaker? FamilySearch.org has her name listed as Julie Swatzell) She married Thomas Swatzel/Swatzell 8 January 1899 in Cocke County (Page 274-FamilySearch.org has them listed as Thomas Swatsell/Swatzell and Jayley Gleese/Green) She was said to have been raped by Confederate soldiers and lost the child while driving pigs, had a miscarriage and the pigs ate the miscarriage. This is not likely as she would have been too young, but this may have occurred with one of Wade Green's sisters.

The 1900 Cocke County census, district 5, sheet 1B, household #22 simply lists Thomas (Swatzel) 53 (b. August 1847-Blacksmith-TN, TN, TN) Jaley 38 (b. March 1862) Hattie 25 (b. May 1875) Dessie 13 (b. April 1887) and Roy 8 (b. April 1892) The 1910 Cocke County census, district 3, sheet 2B, household #27 lists Thomas Scratzell 61, Jaley 48, Roy Scratzell 15, and William Scratzell 12.

The 1920 Census for Cocke County, district 43, sheet 3A, household #39 lists Thomas Swatzel 73, Jaily 59, Bartly Swatzel 15 (grandson) and Nellie Fox 15 (Niece and daughter of Minnie Green Fox Cagle)

The 1930 Cocke County census, district 3, sheet 11B, household #239 lists Jolie Swatsell 67 (widow) Bartley Ledford 24 (step-grandson) Hilda Ledford 22 (wife) and Arvin Ledford 3 (son)

The 1940 Cocke County census, district 3, sheet 4A, family number #59 lists Nancy Smith 61, Esta Brown 18 (granddaughter) Jaley Swatzell 78 (widow-lodger) and Marlon E. Brown 3 (great-grandson

Note: FamilySearch.org transcribers have butchered the name Swatzel. The 1900 census does not even list Thomas's last name, which is clearly legible on the original, and the 1910 census lists Thomas's last name as "Scratzell." Thomas was married previously to Jaillie Busler on 26 July 1886 in Cocke County. A death certificate (#109) states Hattie (Swatzel) Reese was born 1 May 1875 and died at the age of 43 from Tuberculosis on 15 June 1918 in Cocke County. The informant, a Reese, states that her parents were Tom Swatzel and Jaley Busler and that she was buried at Fowler's Grove Cemetery in Cocke County.
