Thelma Poulsen Rich died July 2, 2014, at her home in Portland, at age 87, following a severe heart problem and a bout with cancer. She was born June 10, 1927, in Liberty, Idaho, to Edgar and LaRetta Poulsen. She was one of 10 children. Thelma attended schools in Bear Lake County, graduating from Fielding High School, Paris, Idaho. Thelma and McKay Rich became sweethearts in 1942 while in high school, and were married Aug. 5, 1944, just prior to McKay going overseas as a nose gunner in a B-24 bomber. They were about to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary. Thelma and McKay had children, Andrew, David, Sue, Catherine, Margaret and Charlotte; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Thelma completed some college work but mainly helped McKay obtain his degrees while being a marvelous homemaker. She was an avid reader of poetry and general literature and loved classical music, once winning a national competition about what makes music classical. She was loved by family and many friends. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Aileen, Ruel, Muriel and Glenda. She is survived by her children and grandchildren; McKay; and siblings, DeLone, Blaine, Larry, Kent and Faye. Thelma preferred to be cremated and there will be a private family service. Her headstone is located at the cemetery in Paris, Idaho.
