At his home in Waltham township, at six o'clock, Monday afternoon, May 13, 1907, of pneumonia, Amos Colby, aged 73 years.
He was born at Bow, N.H., April 22, 1834, and was reared there. He was married in Bow, December 26, 1869, to Miss Mary Elizabeth Stevens. They came to the vicinity of Brownsdale in the spring of 1870, arriving June 1, and the family home has since been in that vicinity. Over twenty years ago Mr. and Mrs. Colby united with the Baptist church in Brownsdale. She died November 24, 1902.
Five children were born to them. Irad died over fifteen years ago. The four surviving children are: Charles, George, Mrs. J. M. Tanner, Mrs. Arthur Tanner.
Mr. Colby has been in failing health for several months, but was seriously ill but a few days. He was an upright and highly respected citizen. He was deacon of the Brownsdale Baptist church for years. He was tenacious of his views and held firmly to his convictions. He was greatly attached to his family and home, and was a faithful friend. We feel a personal loss in his departure.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. C. D. Belden, of Austin, will be held at the house, Wednesday afternoon, at 1:30 o'clock. Interment in Waltham cemetery.
