Austin E Deal died Tuesday July 22, 2014 at his residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Bulloch County native was the son of the late Roy and Demmie Akins Deal and was a graduate of Statesboro High School. Upon graduation, Austin joined the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict and received the National Defense Service Medal. Austin loved his country and dedicated his life to its service. Following his discharge from the Army, he joined the National Guard in which he served for the next 38 years, retiring as an E-7 Sgt 1st Class. Austin was employed with Coca-Cola from 1958 through the mid 1970's, and then began a job with Georgia Southern until 1986. From 1986 until 1992, he held a full time position with the National Guard. In 1992, he began a new position with "Youth Challenge Program" at Fort Stewart, where he remained for 16 years.

He was a former member of the Statesboro Men's Bowling League and a member of the "Top Five Club".

Austin was a long-time member of the Brooklet United Methodist Church.

He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, taking them fishing and traveling to the mountains. For many years he enjoyed collecting Coca-Cola items and motorcycles. He also enjoyed his many hours spent farming.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lillie Mae Banks and a brother Edmond Deal.
