Octavus came to Michigan around 1845 after his marriage in 1844 to Theresa DeHarven Hoylarts in Livingston Co, New York. He started out in Bay City and is next found in Portsmouth township in 1850 as an Assistant Marshall.In 1852 he becomes Supervisor of Tittabawassee township. In in 1855 he is one of the founders of Thomastown township and elected its first Supervisor in 1856 and Justice of the Peace in 1857. He died per headstone "aged 62 years & 10 months".
