GILBERTSVILLE — Ada Rose Kepner Allcock, "Gran," 83, of Gilbertsville went to be with the Lord at 9:38 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at Western Baptist Hospital of Paducah.

She attended Briensburg Methodist Church in Briensburg, Ky.

Mrs. Allcock was a retiree with 30 years at South Central Bell. The first two years of her career began in Chicago, Ill., as an operator/framer before transferring back to Paducah. Being a minister's wife for 35 years, she served her Lord at three different Cumberland Presbyterian churches in the area, which included Pleasant Valley C.P. Church in Ballard County, Hopewell C.P. Church in Lola, Ky., and Mt. Zion C.P. Church in Water Valley, Ky. As a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, she was richly rewarded making and stuffing heart pillows for patients. As a volunteer representing the American Quilter's Society for several years, she later became an avid quilter herself with the Woodlawn Cumberland Presbyterian Ladies Quilt Club. Through the American Red Cross and Southern Baptist Disaster Team, she served mankind during Hurricane Andrew. Apart from giving of herself to others, she found time to become a collector of Coca-Cola memorabilia, and play a few rounds of golf with her friends.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Billy C. Allcock; one son, Ricky C. Allcock and wife, Brenda Hughes Allcock, of Reidland; two grandsons, Brent Nelson Baggett and wife, Stephanie, of Austin, Texas, and Benjamin Lee Baggett and wife, Gail, of Corvallis, Ore.; and one great-grandson to be born in November 2010; one sister, Doris Kepner Hunt of Sevens City, Va.; nephews, Steve Brown of Paducah, Glenn Bruce of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jimmy Kepner and Mike Kepner, both of Paducah; nieces, Donna Kay Wynn and Vickie Kepner Stewart, both of Paducah, and Kathy Brown Lanstedt of Florida; and a beloved sister-in-law, Joanne Houser Allcock.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Harold Kepner and Mamie Walker Kepner; two brothers, David Kepner and Richard Kepner; and one sister, Frances Kepner Brown.

Celebration of Life services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2010, at Hughes Funeral Home in Paducah. The Rev. Calvin Wilkins and the Rev. Bill Lawson will officiate. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Virgil Enochs, Charlie Hatfield, Brent Baggett, Ben Baggett, Barry Mann and Sunnie Jim Belt.

Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2010, until the funeral hour at Hughes Funeral Home in Paducah. Visitation was also from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 15, 2010, at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions in memory of Ada Rose Allcock to the Gideons International, Paducah South Camp, P.O. Box 3232, Paducah, KY 42002-3232.
