FORMER DELTAN DIES IN SALT LAKE

Laurence Nelson, for many years a resident of Delta, died May 8 at his home in West Jordan, of a heart ailment. He was employed as warehouse foreman for the Kelly Western Seed Company in Salt Lake City for the past ten years. Mr. Nelson was born Sept. 12, 1894 in South Dakota, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Nels Nelson. He and his twin brother, Lowell Nelson, were among the early farmers on the South Tract and later Mr. Nelson worked in Delta with the seed company. He was married May 8, 1917 to Mamie Cropper in Tacoma, Washington. He was a veteran of World War 1 and lived in Delta both before and after his time in the service. After moving from Delta, the family lived in Midvale in 1937 and in 1947 moved to West Jordan. He was a member of the Lutheran church.

He is survived by his widow and seven sons and daughters; Dee Nelson, Taylorsville; Ralph Nelson, Midvale; Howard, Harold, Carl and Cora Jean Nelson, all of West Jordan and Mrs. Maxine Sorgini, Columbus, Ohio; three grandchildren, and five brothers and three sisters; Ervin, Arthur, and Bernett Nelson and Mrs. Sarah Harding all of Los Angeles; Lowell and Sylvin Nelson, Mrs. Cora Maxum and Mrs. Lucille Browley, all of Portland, Oregon.

Funeral services were held May 13, in the West Jordan LDS ward chapel and were attended by the many friends of the family from West Jordan, Salt Lake City and Midvale. Those from other towns attending were his brothers, Arthur and Bernett, two sisters, Sara and Cora and one brother-in-law and one sister-in-law all of Los Angeles; his twin brother, Lowell from Portland, Oregon and Mrs. Ben Rosenbaum from Oakland, California. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Warnick of American Fork, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Bliss from Provo, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Cropper from Spring Lake, Mrs. Lloyd Jackson and son and Mrs. Don Perre, from Orem, and Mrs. Dora Draper from Midvale, attended the services. Those attending from Delta were Mr. and Mrs. Bob Robinson, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Pratt, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Sorenson and Mrs. Wilford Warnick. Military services were held at the graveside in the Midvale cemetery.
