Daisy Garnet Gadd Jones, 88, died peacefully, Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at Heartland Nursing Center. She was a resident there for three years and prior to her nursing home admission, she resided 20 years at Wildwood House Apartments, 150 Autumn Lane, Beckley, Raleigh County, W.Va.

She was born in Summers County, W.Va., on May 10, 1920 , a daughter of Noah Levi Gadd Sr. and Beatrice Gore Gadd. Daisy was next to the oldest child in her family of 17 children.

She married John "Bink" Jones from Layland, W.Va., on April 4, 1953, and became a stepmother to Shirl Harvey, George Henry and Robert Lee Jones. She was married to Bink for 30 years before his death in June 1983.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a stillborn son, Champion Joe Jones, who was born Sept. 29, 1954; seven brothers, Noah "Buddy," George, Russell, Fred, Carlos, Alvie and Frank; and a sister, Leola.

Survivors include her stepsons, Shirl (Brenda) of Silver Spring, Md., George (Mary) of Culpeper, Va., and Robert (Diane) of Beltsville, Md.; a daughter, Zelda (Darrell) Martin of Shady Spring; brothers, Robert (Inis) Gadd of Princeton, Lotus (Margaret) Gadd of Frederick, Md., and Rhodolphus "Doc" Gadd of Athens; five sisters, Dorothy Gadd Epling of Hilldale, Vada (Wilfred) Gadd Igo of Charleston, Nadine Gadd Bonacci of Weirton, Zula (Tommy) Gadd Patterson of Princeton, and Anna Faye Gadd Werner of Va.; five grandchildren, Melissa (Leo) Sporgitas, Tiffany Jones, Brandon Jones, Derek (Cherry) Martin, and Dustin Martin (girlfriend Katie); great-granddaughters, Kitana and Chloe Martin; and step great-grandsons, Delsin and Kaeden Torres.

Daisy was a member of the New River Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses for 55 years at Gunter Road , Beckley. Mike Lilly of the South Glen Congregation will conducted the funeral service on Friday, Jan. 23, 2009 .

Daisy requested her remains be cremated and her ashes scattered where her son, Champion, was laid to rest in Anderson Cemetery, Maplewood, W.Va.

Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, W.Va., was in charge of the arrangements.
