My Great-Great-Grandfather. Rafael was born on October 19, 1892 in Abasolo, Mexico to Donaciano Negrete and Teresa Rodriguez. He came to the U.S. from Mexico in 1908. He married Guadalupe Sanchezon January 5, 1915 in Los Angeles, California , and had 3 children, Ralph Joseph, Gilbert Joseph and Marie Carmen. He started out playing for the San Gabriel Mission Players in the early teens. He and his band were somehow found and put in the movies. He was a musically talented and could play any instrument, he preferred the Violin and acted in 3 Valentino movies, The Four Horseman of the Apocalypse (1921), The Sheik (1921) and Blood and Sand (1922). He became friends with Rudolph Valentino and would often go and get drunk in bars. Rafael died in a tragic automobile accident on December 12, 1925 while driving home with his musicians after a performance in San Diego, California, the driver lost control and veered off the highway in Santa Ana, Rafael was thrown and shortly after passed on the way to the hospital, he was 33 years old. Douglas Fairbanks helped his wife Lupe out with the funeral arrangements. Valentino would pass 7 months later.
