Mary Virgina was the daughter of James Barb and Jemima Baker.

She married Eli Munson on Jan 1 1869 in Hancock County, Illinois.

To this marriage was born eight children:

Elizabeth Munson Dennison (1880 - 1917)
Emma Munson Conn (1881 - 1927)
Tylee Munson (1885 - 1948)
Ralph Munson (1886 - 1957)
Artie Munson (1888 - 1968)
Victor Munson (1889 - 1943)
Ethyl Munson (1894 - 1909)
Otis Munson (1897 - 1957)

Here is an excerpt from Mary's obituary in the Carthage Gazette:

The community of Magnolia Park was saddened to learn of the death of Mrs. Mary Virginia Munson on Tuesday, August 23 at 9:15 p. m. at her late residence, 2936 Illinois Ave., where she has been residing for the past three weeks. At the time of her death she was 69 years, 2 months and 28 days of age.

Mrs. Munson had been under the doctor's care for the past year and a half, but her death came as a shock to her family, as she had retired for the night in her usual manner when she was shortly seized with a severe attack of heart trouble which ended her life within a half hour.

Mary Virginia Munson was the daughter of James and Jemima Barbe. She was born in the state of Missouri May 25, 1858, and at the age of 6 years, they moved near Carthage, Illinois where she resided, and at the age of 20 years she was married to Eli D. Munson on January 1, 1879.

To this union were born eight children, Elizabeth Jane, who passed away in the year of 1917; Emma Mae of Los Angeles, Calif.; Tylee Arthur of Fountain Green, Ill.; Thomas Ralph of Long Beach, Calif.; Artie L. Otis of Ft. Madison, Iowa; Wilferd Victor of LaHarpe, Ill.; Ethel Grace, who passed away it the age of 15 years, and Otis Ray, of Los Angeles, Calif. There are also ten grandchildren.

She also leaves to mourn her death one sister, Mrs. Susan Loggie of Los Angeles, Calif., and two brothers, Benjamin and William Barbe of Tennessee, Ill.

Mr. and Mrs. Munson lived their life in Illinois, until four years ago, when they came to California, and Mr. Munson was called back to Illinois on business. He has made frequent trips to California, and he arrived here to spend the last three weeks of mother's life.

The last year and a half Mrs. Munson has made her home with her son and wife, Otis and Frances where she has had the very best of care and medical treatments.

Mrs. Munson was baptized and became a member of the Oak Grove Christian church in Illinois in the year of 1858, and has always lived a good Christian life.

She was of a kindly nature and was highly esteemed by her family and a large circle of friends and she will be greatly missed by all.
