Ethel Frances Landry, born Sept. 30, 1929, in Stratford to William Francis Bailey and Jessie Ethel Bailey (Phillips), died June 5, 2014, in Green Mountain Falls, Colorado.

She was married to Frank Joseph Landry on April 9, 1957, in Shawnee.

Ethel is preceded in death by husband, Frank Joseph Landry; her infant son, Frank J Landry Jr.; her mother, Jessie Bailey; and three brothers: Uel Smith, Joe Bailey, and Eugene Smith.

Surviving family includes: daughter, Janice Anthony Pratt of Green Mountain Falls, Colorado; four grandchildren: John, Jessie, Katlin, and Matthew; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Cecil Qualls of Muldrow; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Frances, or "Mum Mum" as we all knew her, was a loving and determined woman. Born and raised on the farm lands of Oklahoma, she learned to work hard and to conquer many hardships, developing strengths that she carried with her throughout her life. Marrying into the Air Force life, she moved to Biloxi, Mississippi, where her daughter Jan was born and then to Washington, D.C., where she raised her daughter Jan and lost a son Frank Jr. Being very ill at the time of Frank Jr.'s death, she was unable to see her son buried. It was many years later (when she was in her 70s) that she was finally able to visit the grave of her infant son who is buried at Arlington Memorial Cemetery.

During her time in Washington DC, she was a mother to be envied by many. She was homeroom mother, gymnastic mom, choir mom, orchestra supporter, just to name a few; being involved in any activity that came along in the life of her daughter. In addition to these activities, she became an orthodontist's assistant during this time and worked at a dental office until retirement.

After Frank's retirement from the Air Force and civil service and her retirement from orthodontics, Frank and Frances began a new page of their lives in Earlsboro. They bought 10 acres of land in Earlsboro on which they built with their own hands the home of their dreams. They carved a beautiful acreage out of a cow field, giving many years of pleasure to them and their family. However, Frank's health and her mother's health were poor and for many years she gave herself to the care of these two people that she loved very much. After Frank's death, Frances continued to live in Earlsboro helping to raise her four grandchildren and support her daughter in her daycare business and library job. Due to her energy, enthusiasm and love, there are many children that to her last days in Earlsboro still called her "Mum Mum" when they saw her in town.

In January of 2014, Frances was diagnoses with lung cancer, a shock to all who knew her. Struggling to handle this illness, she moved to Green Mountain Falls, Colorado, and began the difficult process of dealing with this terminal illness. Taking every medical treatment possible and showing incredible strength and positive energy, she succumbed to this illness on June 5, 2014, at her daughter's home, after talking with her grandson John who was stationed in Kuwait that morning. Her daughter Jan and son-in-law Jeff were by her side as she took her last breath in this world. She was joined by her granddaughter Katlin and daughter-in-law Holly and great-grandkids Rebekah, Clare and Reiden, to celebrate her life shortly after her passing. She will be missed by all that knew her.

A memorial service will be held in Ethel's honor on at 10 a.m., Monday, July 21, at Resthaven Funeral Home of Shawnee.
