Julius Dallas Fornes, 90, of Grantsboro passed away Monday, April 1, 2013, at Grantsbrook Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Born June 29, 1922 to Ervin & Fannie Fornes.

He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific on the USS Ashland, LSD-1 and was offshore when the flag was raised at Iwo Jima. He was a WWII veteran and retired from the Civil Service.

He was a skilled cabinetmaker.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ada Mae Rice Fornes and grandson Justin Bryan Fornes.

He is survived by four sons, Dennis Fornes and wife, Lola, of Grantsboro, Danny Fornes and wife, Marsha, of Newport, Dale Fornes and wife, Jenny, of Grantsboro and Dudley Fornes and wife, Deborah, of Bayboro; one daughter, Debbie F. Roberts and husband, Harry, of Grantsboro; nine grandchildren, Rebecca Fornes, Jonathan Fornes and wife, Katie, Matthew Fornes and wife, Allison, Amber Parker, Jennifer Doucette and husband, Michael, Warren Fornes, Jarod Fornes and fiancée’ Katie, Chris Roberts and wife, Connie, and Tammi Roberts; fourteen great-grandchildren, Jake Fornes, Luke Fornes, Jaylen Fornes, McKinsey Parker, Tristen Fornes, Jackson D. Fornes, Aiden Doucette, Salter Doucette, Katie Lynn Roberts, Jason Roberts, Ashley Fornes, Allison Fornes, Jackson P. Fornes and Tyler Ferebee.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 4, at Bryant Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lynn Maxwell officiating. Interment will follow immediately in Cayton Cemetery with military honors.
