While he could sign and read lips, the goal was to make him an oral deaf person so he could communicate in a hearing world. John was the first of two sons that would be born to his parents.
John graduated from Ottawa Hills High School in 1980. A couple of years later he met the girl that would become his wife and they were married April 20, 1985. They would spend the next 29 years living the life of a married couple. Working & worshiping together, and taking each day as it came to them.
John also had a service dog that was a big part of their lives. "Charcoal" was a trained companion that would wake John up, he'd let him know when someone was at the door or when the phone was ringing. He was a license carrying official service dog, back in the day before laws were unilaterally passed to allow these important animals to accompany their masters anywhere that they would go. It was a trail blazing time for people who had these dogs. Because of them, now most places understand the importance of their presence and are accepting of them.
Anyone who knew John could tell you that he was almost never without a Dr. Pepper.

While he had no children, he enjoyed time with his nephews & nieces. He was remembered participating in family soft ball games. Family was important to him. Prior to the memorial service, an aunt on his wife's side of the family shared that she enjoyed sitting & talking with John because he was just a nice guy.
Rest peacefully John.
