DEC. 9, 1909 - FEB. 19, 2005

Carmella M. Palillo, a former industrial worker and mother of former Niagara Falls Mayor Jacob A. Palillo, died Saturday in Schoellkopf Health Center, where she had been a patient for 12 years. She was 95.

Mrs. Palillo, known as "Nellie," was born Carmella Curcio in Tyler, Pa. to Joseph and Frances (Patti) Curcio on December 9, 1909.

She went to school in Pennsylvania and moved here in 1924.

She married the love of her life, Joseph Palillo, Sr., on January 20, 1927 in Indiana, PA. He died on June 20, 1978.

During World War II, she worked at Bell Aircraft in Wheatfield. Later, she worked at Hooker Chemical Corp., Carborundum Co. and Kimberly-Clark Corp.

Later, she followed her son's political fortunes, as he was elected mayor in 1991 and served for four years. In the nursing home, she was popular with the staff, who called her "Chicki."
