Ted Eustace McVay

Ted Eustace McVay, 97, of Jackson, died on July 8, 2014. He was born in Jackson on August 26, 1916, to Joseph Blake and Laura Alice McLeod McVay. He graduated in 1936 from State Secondary Agricultural School in Jackson, and was a member of the undefeated football team from the preceding fall. In 1941, he married Mary Mae McLendon, and in World War II, served as an airplane mechanic in the European Theater of Operations with the Army Air Corps. Following the war he returned to Jackson and then in 1954 moved with his wife and three children to Demopolis, where he worked for Lone Star Cement Corporation until his retirement in 1981. He then returned to his home in Clarke County. He was a faithful member of Peniel Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, Mazie Blackwell McVay, and nine sisters and brothers. Surviving are his wife of 73 years, Mae McVay; his daughter, Joyce McVay (Frank) Bruscato of Coldspring, TX; his sons, Ted (Cathy) McVay, Jr. of Auburn, AL, and Blake Daniel (Reinette) McVay of Jackson; four grandchildren: Dianne Bruscato (Brad) Tyler of Boerne, TX, John David (Megan) McVay of Durham, NC, and Daniel and Joseph McVay of Jackson; two great-grandchildren: Audrey and Addisen Tyler of Boerne, TX; two brothers: Gene McVay of Jackson, and Jack McVay of Mobile, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be take place on Thursday, July 10, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson, and one hour before the funeral service, which will be conducted on Friday, July 11, at 10:00. Burial will be in Trinity Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Jackson. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a favorite charity.
