SPRINGFIELD- Alice Mae Gruwell, 90, of Springfield, Ill., passed away Wednesday, March. 13, 2013, at St. John's Hospice in Springfield.

Alice was born May 23, 1922, in Chicago, the daughter of John J. and Julia K. Eagle Broderick.

She married Jack A. Gruwell on Nov. 30, 1940, in Oak Park, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

Alice, along with her husband, Jack, were co-owners of the Springfield Cycle and Lock Co. in Springfield for 14 years.

Alice loved her family, especially her grandchildren, investigating the family tree, compiling the family history through photos, antiquing, Fannie May candy and dancing with the Stars.

She is survived by her husband, Jack; a son, Jack B. (wife, Carol) Gruwell, of New Berlin, Ill.; a daughter, Sharon A. (husband, Ralph) Green of West Chicago; five grandchildren, Todd (wife, Molly) Green of DeKalb, Ill., Dave (wife, Mary) Green of Chicago, Mike (wife, Denise) Green of Frisco, Texas, Marcus Gruwell and Helena Gruwell, both of New Berlin, Ill.; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alice's family will meet friends Saturday, March 16, from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at the Wilson Park Funeral Home in Edinburg, Ill. Burial will be at Morrisonville Cemetery in Morrisonville, Ill.
