Mr. Grady Rodney Harmon 74, of LaFayette, Alabama died Thursday July 17, 2014 at the East Alabama Medical Center. Mr. Harmon was born October 12, 1939 in Chambers County to Woodson Grady Harmon & Laura Lee Childers Harmon. Mr. Harmon received his Bachelors and Masters Degree from Auburn University. He taught in the school of Mechanical Engineering at Auburn from 1957 to 1967. He was Founder/President/CEO of Harmon Engineering and Associates in Auburn from 1969 to 1989. In 1990 he moved his office from Auburn to LaFayette where he directed his focus on helping his children with their careers. He co-founded Global Community Development Ministries(GCDM) which was focused on foreign missions. The main objective of this mission was to provide medical and community development needs to the under-served indigenous people of Venezuela and Guyana. He also served on the board of SIFAT, was active in the Central Alabama Emmaus Community and Christian Men's Outreach of Chambers County. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Congregational Christian Church(PGCC) where he served as Senior Deacon.
The funeral will be held Sunday July 20, 2014 at Pleasant Grove Church at 2PM with burial in the Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Ricky Cummings and Rev. Paul Howard officiating. The family has requested that no flowers be sent and that all memorials be made to Pleasant Grove Congregational Christian Church c/o Leigh Wages P.O. Box 186 LaFayette, Alabama 36862 or to Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund c/o Susan Harmon P.O. Box 127 LaFayette, Alabama 36862.
The family will receive friends at Pleasant Grove Church 4472 County Road 53, LaFayette, Alabama on Saturday July 19, 2014 from 5PM until 8PM.
Survivors are his wife of 52 years Mary Finley Harmon; Daughters Susan Harmon, Leigh (Jay) Wages; Sons Woodson (Debbie) Harmon, Douglas Harmon; Grandchildren Blake Whitman, Thomas Harmon, Austin Harmon, Jessica Harmon, Laura Harmon, Levi Harmon. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother George Kenneth Harmon.
