Born in Mentor, Ohio, he was a son of the late Byron Prouty and Clara Gilbert Carpenter. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Carpenter had been employed by the U.S. Patent Office. He was an amateur ham radio operator.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Byron L. Carpenter of Mentor and Robert J. Carpenter of Rockville; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
There will be no calling or viewing at the funeral home. Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 31, at the Lutheran Cemetery, Middletown by the Rev. Jonathan T. Ford, rector of the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Braddock Heights. The Gladhill Funeral Home in Middletown is in charge of arrangements.
