OBITUARY
Mrs. Caroline Eckstein
Another one of Milford's pioneer women has passed away. Mrs. Caroline Eckstein died last Friday noon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Kirschstein in the city of Winona. Death was due to a stroke of apoplexy. She had a stroke several years ago but from this she had almost completely recovered. The past summer she suffered a second stroke and since then her strength had been waning. She became unconscious Wednesday noon and never rallied.

The deceased whose maiden name was Caroline Meyer was born in Barbis, Hanover, Germany, July 20, 1830. She grew to womanhood in the home of her nativity and in October, 1850, she was married to Henry Eckstein who preceded her in death six years ago. Four years later they came to America and located first in Chicago. The following year, 1855, they came to Minnesota and located on a farm in the Town of Milford where they followed the occupation of farming until 1886 when they moved to Winona. With the exception of a few years when the deceased lived with her daughter here, Mrs. John Mack, she has since her removal from here lived in Winona. Ten children were born to her of whom the following survive: Mrs. John Mack, Milford: Mrs. William Mack, Belview, Redwood County: Mrs. Elizabeth Kirchstein, Winona; Mrs. August Roemer, Mrs. Franz Roeder and Adolph Eckstein of Melville, Canada. She is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Hanna Hausman who resides in Austin, Texas. The remains were brought here Sunday night and the funeral was held from the John Mack home in the Town of Milford Monday afternoon, Albert Steinhauser, officiating. Interment was made in the City cemetery.
