Jacob Cohen died at Lenox Hill Hospital in the Bronx
Address 2707 Creston Ave
Age Approximate: 60
Husband Of Lena
His occupation: "photos messenger"
Father's Name Samuel Cohen
Mother's Name Rhoda Rochel
There is a reasonable possibility that this is the Jacob Cohen who was the son of Samuel Cohen (originally Faivish Kemach)[memorial 81002687] and Rode Gershater [memorial 81002576].
Points in favor:
1. His father's Hebrew name was Shraga Shlomo. The Hebrew name on this gravestone is Yacov ben Shlomo.
2. Parents names Sam and Rhoda
3. He died in the Bronx. The Jacob who was Sam & Rode's son was known to be living in the Bronx in the 1930 census.
Points against:
1. If this Jacob was really 60 years old, and thus born around 1888, he would be 4 years too young.
2. At the time of his death, this Jacob left a widow Lena. Sam & Rode's son was married to Rebecca Lowenberg, who died in 1930 (memorial # 109528591). It is unknown if Jacob remarried. This Jacob & Lena are enumerated in the 1940 census at the Creston Avenue address. The only Jacob & Lena Cohen of a similar age, in the Bronx in the 1930 census lived on Rochambeau Avenue. That one owned a garage, which does not match the profession of the Creston Avenue Jacob Cohen.
3. This Jacob's gravestone only lists his father's name as Shlomo. Samuel Cohen's Hebrew name is spelled out as "Shraga Shlomo" on almost all known gravestones that make reference to him. The gravestone of Sam & Rode's son Kivie, buried at Mount Zion, also lists his father's Hebrew name only as Shlomo. So, there is evidence of at least one son's gravestone saying "son of Shlomo".
4. There is no record that Rode Gershater's middle name was Rochel. But, no evidence against it either.
There is not enough information to confirm or eliminate him as Sam & Rode's son.
