Hebron Journal dated 8-19-1886:
Last Tuesday evening Clara DeLong, a graduate of the Nebraska institute for the blind was to give a concert at the school house. About 8 o'clock the exercises of the evening commenced and a few moments later Clara's mother(sic-step), Mrs. Delong commenced coughing and soon walked out of the house. A younger daughter followed; immediately after a scream was heard, and rushing out, they found Mrs. DeLong lying on the ground. Mr. DeLong tenderly placed her on a long bench and everything was done that was possible to do. She spoke only a few words and died in about thirty minutes. The bursting of a artery or an abscess was the cause. Mrs. DeLong was forty years old and leaves a husband and eight children to mourn the loss of an affectionate wife and mother. The funeral services were held at the school house on Wednesday, conducted by the Rev. L. Willard and the remains interred in the Pleasant Plain Cemetery. The warmest sympathy is extended to the family.
