JEAN HARRIS HOWREN, born July 10, 1929 in Birmingham, Alabama, went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 19, 2007 from Houston,Texas. She died peacefully surrounded by her family at the age of 78. Jean is preceded in death by her husband Hubert Leighton Howren, Jr., son William (Billy) Howren, brother Felix Harris and her parents William Felix Harris, Sr. and Anna Mae Key. She is survived by her mother-in-law Mrs. H. L. Howren, Sr., daughter Priscilla Calhoun of Houston, Texas, son James Howren and wife Carolyn of Spring, Texas, daughter Susan Worsham and husband Gary of Katy, Texas, son Johnny Howren and wife Carolyn of Houston, Texas, and son Devon Humphrey and his wife Bonnie of Dripping Springs,Texas; 11 grandchildren: Jason Cooper and wife Dana, Christopher Calhoun and wife Chelsea, Whitney Arriaga and husband Joshua, James Wagner, Jennifer & Lisa Worsham, Dustin, Ryan & Jordan Howren, and Drew & Dillon Humphrey; 4 great-grandchildren: Shea & Cameron Cooper, Zachary Calhoun and Haley Wagner. Also dear friend and companion of 16 years, Jerry Fitzgerald. The family would like to give a special thanks to her dedicated and longtime caregiver, Paulette Flowers. Jean was a 48 year polio survivor and an inspiration to all who knew her. She was the backbone of her family giving each her never-ending love, faith, support and encouragement. She will be dearly missed by not only her family, but by the many dear friends and lives she has touched throughout the years. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 25, 2007 at Hope Episcopal Church, 1613 W. 43rd St., Houston, Texas with reception following. In lieu of flowers, it was Jean's wishes that donations be made to Hope Episcopal Church, P. O. Box 920564, Houston, Texas 77292.Jean and her husband, Hubert Howren were married June 5, 1948 in Jefferson county, Alabama.
